Lord’s to host Hundred finals as Trent Rockets await opponents
The Hundred 2026 season is set to conclude with a double-header of finals at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Sunday, August 16. The Trent Rockets have secured their place in both the men’s and women’s finals after topping their respective tables during the league phase.
In the men’s competition, the Manchester Super Giants will face the Trent Rockets in the final. This matchup was confirmed after the Manchester Super Giants achieved a 20-run victory over SunRisers Leeds in the men’s Eliminator match on Friday. The Trent Rockets had a strong league performance, described as breezing through the phase.
Finals Day Schedule and Teams
The women’s final will commence at 2.15pm, followed by the men’s final at 6pm on Sunday, August 16. Both matches are scheduled to take place at Lord’s Cricket Ground. A reserve day is set for Monday, August 17, if needed.
For the women’s final, the Trent Rockets will compete against SunRisers Leeds. The SunRisers Leeds women’s team secured their spot by defeating Southern Brave with a five-wicket victory in their Eliminator match. Ash Gardner, Australia’s vice-captain and captain of the Trent Rockets, along with England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, have led their team to this final.
The SunRisers Leeds women’s squad features Phoebe Litchfield, an Australian batter who has been a standout performer in the competition. She has accumulated a tournament-leading 293 runs across nine games, maintaining a strike rate of 169.3. Her performance is noted as potentially significant in the final outcome.
Men’s Finalists and Key Players
The men’s final will feature the Manchester Super Giants‘ batting unit against the all-round strength of the Trent Rockets. The Manchester Super Giants‘ lineup includes prominent batters such as Jos Buttler, Heinrich Klaasen, and Tim Seifert. These players are considered key heavy-hitters for their team.
On the other side, Trent Rockets captain Sam Billings will lead his team, aiming for his fourth consecutive title. The Rockets‘ squad also includes England opener Ben Duckett, known for his quick scoring, New Zealand’s Finn Allen, and Australian all-rounder Tim David, recognised for his power-hitting abilities.
The Road to the Finals: Net Run Rate Impact
The league stage saw a tight finish, particularly in the men’s competition. The Trent Rockets finished first in the standings with 24 points, securing six wins from their eight matches, which allowed them to advance directly to the final. The battle for the remaining playoff spots was fiercely contested.
Three teams—Manchester Super Giants, Sunrisers Leeds, and MI London—all concluded the league stage with 20 points, each having achieved five wins and three defeats. However, only two of these teams progressed due to net run rate (NRR).
The Manchester Super Giants secured second place with an NRR of 0.791, while Sunrisers Leeds took third with an NRR of 0.603. This meant that MI London, despite matching the points total of the other two teams, was eliminated from the title race due to a lower NRR of 0.241. This outcome has led to discussions regarding the impact of net run rate in a competition with a limited number of group matches.
MI London, the defending champions, finished ahead of teams like Welsh Fire, Southern Brave, London Spirit, and Birmingham Phoenix on points. However, their NRR proved to be the deciding factor, preventing them from reaching the Eliminator. The standings highlight how every boundary and wicket can have significant consequences in a closely contested league.
The finals day will also feature a performance by Ella Eyre, known for hits such as ‘Came here for love’ and ‘Answerphone’.
